Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti provides key injury update
Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti has provided an update on the injury suffered by Toffees playmaker Bernard on Wednesday.
The Brazilian international suffered a worrying-looking problem in the warm-up prior to Everton’s 2-1 defeat to champions Manchester City.
The 27-year-old had been in line to start, but was seen writhing in pain on the Etihad Stadium turf after an accidental collision with teammate Yerry Mina injured his left knee.
Homegrown midfielder Tom Davies was brought into the eleven as a result, with youngster Anthony Gordon stepping up to the substitute’s bench.
Ancelotti has now provided an update on the former Shakhtar Donetsk man’s status.
“I don’t know but I think it is not too serious but we are going to check tomorrow,” he said, as per the Liverpool Echo.
“He had the contact with Yerry Mina in the warm-up and was not able to play. He had a lot of pain and so we changed. I hope he can recover quickly.
“We lost more quality in front but Thomas played on the left and defensively he works for the team, he could do better in passing forward, but it didn’t change the plan, honestly.”
Davies struggled mightily in a relatively unfamiliar role on Wednesday, and the team certainly lost out in an offensive sense without the diminutive Brazilian.
All the Toffees supporters can do now is wait for the results of Bernard’s Thursday tests and hope for the best.
