Journalist: Everton have ‘touched base’ over £34m-rated starlet
Carlo Ancelotti’s arrival at Everton has boosted expectations and seen the excitement levels skyrocket on the blue half of Merseyside.
Much of that is down to an expectation of what he can do with the players already at the club, but a lot of it is due to the type of players he might be able to bring to the club.
And so it’s no surprise that, with the January transfer window now open, the reports linking the Toffees with this and that player have been flying in.
Journalist Dean Jones of Bleacher Report even claimed on his personal Twitter account on Friday that the club have contacted Roma over starlet Cengiz Under.
“Everton have touched base with reps of Cengiz Under to check out his availability. Roma rate him at €40m but are open to offers,” he wrote.
€40million in British pounds is £34million, a not unreasonable sum for a winger who has been thought of as one of Serie A’s top young stars for some time now.
However, his star has waned somewhat this season, with just four starts and one goal to his name thus far.
In other Everton news, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has ripped into two of the signings made by former Toffees boss Ronald Koeman.
