Report: Ancelotti specifically asks Everton to sign Klavan

There’s no doubt that Everton are rather light on two key areas following the first half of the season: attack and the centre of the defence.

The former need has been partly relieved by the fine recent form of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison, but the latter very much remains an issue.

At the present time the Toffees have only three senior centre halves: Michael Keane, Yerry Mina and Mason Holgate. That is an untenable situation for them moving forward.

It should come as no surprise, then, that new manager Carlo Ancelotti is looking to shore up the heart of his backline.

Italian outlet CagliariCalcio reported on Friday that the 60-year-old has specifically told the club to try and sign Cagliari centre back Ragnar Klavan.

Yes, that’s the same Klavan who used to play for the team’s cross-city rivals Liverpool. So, this likely wouldn’t be the most popular addition with the Everton faithful.

No official offer is thought to have been made for the Estonian international as of yet, but his representatives are thought to be aware of the Toffees’ interest.

In other Everton news, the Blues are thought to have touched base with a Serie A heavyweight regarding a £34million-rated winger.
