National journalist: PL side plot loan swoop for Everton ace

Many Everton supporters are likely expecting the club to be big players in the January transfer window from an incomings perspective.

However, there could yet be a fair few outgoings, as well. New manager Carlo Ancelotti may well want to shift a bit of deadwood in his first window with the club.

One of the players who would appear to be most at risk of being moved on is striker Genk Tosun.

The Turkey international has rarely featured this season, and his country’s participation in this summer’s Euro 2020 competition may induce him to leave Goodison Park this month.

Indeed, The Times journalist Paul Joyce claimed on his personal Twitter account on Saturday that the Toffees’ Premier League rivals Crystal Palace are readying a move for him.

“Crystal Palace trying to sign Everton’s Cenk Tosun on loan,” he wrote.

Tosun leaving Merseyside in January would make a lot of sense for everyone involved. He’s roundly failed to deliver on the promise of his early days as a Toffee, and it’s now best that he moved on.

The 28-year-old isn’t a bad player, but he’s not added anything this season. In fact, he’s played only eight times, starting just twice and scoring only once.

Palace have needed a proper number nine for a long time, and so it makes sense for them to take a punt on Tosun, as well.

If he does well then Ancelotti can shift him for a decent fee in the summer, while he likely gets enough regular football to seal a Euro 2020 place in the meantime. It’s a win-win.
