Report: Northern club want £800,000 for Everton target

The January transfer window is sure to be an exciting one for Everton fans after the appointment of world class new manager Carlo Ancelotti.

You have to think that the Italian probably wouldn’t have taken the job had he not had assurances that the club would spend money.

Perhaps, though, young Carlisle United defender Jarrad Branthwaite wasn’t exactly what he had in mind.

That may be so, but that hasn’t stopped the Daily Mail from reporting that the Cumbrians have named a price of £800,000 after the Toffees failed with a bid last week.

That offer was thought to be £500,000 plus add ons, but that’s clearly below what the northerly side want for their star asset.

The 17-year-old is attracting interest from Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Watford and Leicester City, as well as Ancelotti’s side.

Just pay the money and be done with it.

All Carlisle want is more cash up front, and what’s another £300,000 to a side like Everton? Given how many teams are after the teenager, it’s surely worth getting a deal done.

Branthwaite has played 11 times for the League Two side this season despite his tender age, so he clearly possesses huge potential. He could be the perfect long-term addition for the Blues.

In other Everton news, the Toffees are reported to be hot on the heels of one of the country’s finest young right backs.
