Report: Everton leading race for Scottish starlet

Good teams are always on the lookout for the best top young talent emerging in the game, and Everton are no exception to that.

The Toffees have a rich history of finding raw gems and polishing them into diamonds, and it appears that that will continue to be the case under new manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Indeed, TEAMtalk reported on Sunday that the Merseysiders are leading the race to sign teenage Hamilton Academical starlet Jamie Hamilton.

The 17-year-old defender is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in Scottish football, and is already a semi-regular for the Premiership side.

He’s made 11 appearances this season including starts against the likes of Rangers and Aberdeen.

Everton’s scouts have sent backs glowing scouting reports on the youngster, but Wolverhampton Wanderers, Aston Villa, Burnley, Brighton & Hove Albion and Fulham are all also interested.

Goodison News’ View

To be starting games in the Scottish Premiership at just 17 years of age, whatever sniping that league gets from south of the border, is quite an achievement.

So Hamilton is clearly a top young talent, which is why so many Premier League teams are taking a look at him.

Obviously this is one for the future, but there’s no reason why the Toffees shouldn’t make a concerted effort to sign the teenager this month.

Perhaps they could send him back to Hamilton on an 18-month loan, allowing him to gain experience and become a fully-fledged starter there before returning to Goodison Park.

In other Everton news, Ancelotti is reported to have approved a bold move for a high-profile Real Madrid star.
