Report: Everton target in-demand Ligue 1 starlet
Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti needs to ensure he gets one or two quality players into Goodison Park this month.
That much was made abundantly clear in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to a youthful Liverpool team in the FA Cup.
However, it’s not necessarily expected that the Italian will have a lot of money to spend, making things somewhat more difficult.
But that hasn’t stopped the Toffees from registering their interest in one of Europe’s finest up-and-coming centre backs ahead of next summer.
The Daily Star reported on Monday that Ancelotti’s team have joined the race to sign St Etienne’s highly-rated defender Wesley Fofana.
Italian heavyweights AC Milan and German giants RB Leipzig have already made enquiries, while Monaco and Stuttgart are also monitoring the 19-year-old.
The Ligue 1 club want to offer the teenager a new contract, but it’s understood that they would be willing to sell him for the right price come the end of the season.

Fofana is certainly a massive prospect, but signing him in the summer doesn’t fix the Toffees’ lack of centre half depth at the moment.
To be clear, he is a really exciting talent. In 12 games this season he is averaging two tackles, 3.2 interceptions, 3.8 clearances and a pass accuracy of 81.8%.
The youngster would certainly improve Ancelotti’s squad for years to come, but it would still be a good idea for the Italian to bring in a centre back in this window as well.
In other Everton news, a former player has warned the Blues boss that things could soon turn toxic at Goodison Park.
