Whelan tips PL striker to move to Everton
There’s no doubt that Everton have struggled mightily to replace Romelu Lukaku since his move to Manchester United in 2017.
From Sandro Ramirez to Wayne Rooney to Cenk Tosun and now Moise Kean and Dominic Calvert Lewin, it’s been a tough ride of late for the Toffees frontmen.
So you can see why a variety of forwards get linked with moves to Goodison Park. It’s because there’s no dominant number one striker at the club.
The most recent attacker to be touted for a move to the Blues is Chelsea star Olivier Giroud, with former Premier League striker Noel Whelan believing he’d be perfect for Everton.
“They need some kind of goalscorer,” he told Football Insider. “We know they have pace and creativity.
“They have Bernard and Dominic Calvert-Lewin has come into his own, he feels like he has more belief in his game and he’s added goals.
“Olivier Giroud wouldn’t be the worst signing Everton have ever made, put it that way. I think they need a presence up front, someone who the wingmen can cut inside and play off and he’s the perfect sort of player for them.”

True, Giroud wouldn’t be the worst signing Everton have ever made. However, is he what the Toffees need right now?
He’s a solid, reliable presence up front, but his best days are probably behind him at this point. Surely it’s better to continue the team’s youth movement at the sharp end of the pitch.
Carlo Ancelotti’s priority should be aiding the development of Calvert-Lewin and Kean up front, helping them to fulfil their huge potential.
In other Everton news, the club are reportedly tracking a former Chelsea winger currently starring in Serie A.
