Bent urges Ancelotti to sell Everton first teamer this month

This Everton squad is in serious need of a makeover going forward. The Toffees have slipped well behind where they should be.

From knocking on the door of the top four, the Blues have now not only dropped off the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City, but behind the Leicester City’s and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ of the world as well.

Plus, they are coming off one of their most humiliating performances in recent years, well beaten by their fiercest rivals’ kids.

For many, that defeat signalled that a changing of the guard was necessary at Goodison Park. Former England international Darren Bent believes that one player, in particular, must be moved on.

“Ancelotti has a proven pedigree, he’s won some of the biggest trophies in the world, so he knows what he’s doing,” he told Football Insider.

“He understands what’s required, and if he doesn’t think they’re good enough or are pulling their weight, he will put them on the transfer list.

“I think Sigurdsson has got a lot of quality but’s not been doing it for Everton, and with his quality week-in-week out he should be pulling the strings for Everton and making sure he’s one of their main players and someone they can’t afford to drop. And he’s not been that, he’s struggled and Everton have struggled.

“So if they can go recoup some of the money they paid for him, even if it’s not what they paid, they’d still get a lot of money, listen, it’s something!”

Sigurdsson is 30 years of age now, so the window for Everton to make some money back on him is closing rapidly. As Bent says, they may not get as much as they’d want, but they should be looking to sell him for anything between £15-20million really.

The cold hard fact is that the Iceland international hasn’t produced for the Toffees. In 20 Premier League games this season he’s only got one goal and one assist.

Furthermore, he is averaging one dispossession and 1.3 unsuccessful touches per game at present.

That’s simply not good enough for someone of his ability. Ancelotti is used to world class players, and Sigurdsson simply isn’t that. With that said, now’s the time to move him on.

In other Everton news, the Blues reportedly received contact from a European heavy-hitter over one of their strikers.
