Lawrenson makes Everton v Brighton prediction

Mark Lawrenson knows how to hammer a sub-par player, and a couple of Everton stars have now found that out for themselves.

The former Liverpool man has made a career as a pundit by saying it how it is. Oh, and by making increasingly dodgy Premier League predictions.

So you knew that he’d have something to say about the Toffees after their shocking defeat to Liverpool last weekend.

He duly delivered, while predicting that Carlo Ancelotti’s side would bounce back with a 2-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

“I was at Anfield for Everton’s FA Cup defeat by Liverpool last weekend and I think it has been overlooked a bit that Reds keeper Adrian made some really good saves in the first half when the score was 0-0,” he wrote on the BBC Sport website.

“The Toffees were poor in the second half, though. I looked at them and across midfield Morgan Schneiderlin and Gylfi Sigurdsson looked pedestrian, which is a worry.

“The Toffees fans were furious with the outcome of the derby and although they will be fully behind the team on Saturday, they will insist on a better performance. So, I am sure we will see a reaction from the Everton players here, especially because they are at home.”

Goodison News’ View

Lawrenson is absolutely right to criticise Sigurdsson and Schneiderlin for the dirge they offered up last weekend.

They provided no resistance to the Reds’ youngsters in the middle of the park, while barely giving them anything to worry about going the other way.

To be honest, it would be a big surprise if Ancelotti selected either man against the Seagulls. Tom Davies and Fabian Delph have to be ahead of them in the pecking order at the moment.

In other Everton news, a former England international has urged the Blues boss to sell one of the team names mentioned above.
