Report: Everton like Bournemouth centre back

Transfer business has yet to get underway in earnest at Everton, aside from Cenk Tosun’s loan move to Crystal Palace on Friday.

Incomings have obviously been slow, there’s no doubt about that, but that doesn’t mean that links to potential new signings have been scarce. In fact, it’s been quite the opposite.

Carlo Ancelotti’s arrival as manager has seen a higher calibre of players being associated with moves to Goodison Park.

One of those top class names to be linked with the Toffees is Bournemouth centre back Nathan Ake.

Sky Sports reported on Friday that the Netherlands international is a player the Blues like, although they’re thought to be behind Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign him.

It’s thought that it’s a priority of Ancelotti’s to bring in a new centre half and central midfielder this month.

Goodison News’ View

This would be an absolutely ideal move for the Toffees. They are really light on centre halves at the moment, and Ake would be a big upgrade on what they have at the moment.

The 24-year-old is averaging 1.2 tackles, 1.4 interceptions and 4.4 clearances per game this season, although he hasn’t been able to shore up the Cherries’ leaky defence.

Still, he’s a distinctly better centre back than the likes of Michael Keane and Yerry Mina. Plus, he still has room to improve.

Obviously this would be a difficult deal to get done with all the competition, but if they can somehow pull it off it would be a big boost for Ancelotti.

In other Everton news, the Italian has provided a hugely encouraging update on an injured Toffees star.
