Report: Everton eyeing ‘keeper from Ancelotti’s former club
Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti made a big show this week of assuring journalists that he wasn’t looking for a new goalkeeper this month.
But is there anyone who really believes that?
Jordan Pickford has been up and down throughout his time on Merseyside, although he did enjoy a good outing against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.
Still, you get the sense that the Italian does want another shot-stopper, a truly top class one to compete with and perhaps usurp the England number one.
That’s the view put across in The Sun, anyway. The newspaper claimed on Friday that Ancelotti is keen on his former ‘keeper Alex Meret.
The Napoli goalie is said to have emerged as a possible option to sooth the Toffees’ goalkeeping situation.
The 22-year-old has largely established himself as the Serie A side’s number one this season, making 19 appearances in all competitions.

The Blues could really do with another top class stopper to compete with Pickford. It might spur him into action and see him find some true consistency.
Otherwise it would give Ancelotti a second option that he doesn’t really have at the moment in Marten Stekelenburg and Jonas Lossl.
Meret is quality ‘keeper who is now a fully-fledged Italy international. Would Napoli let him go, though? That’s the big question.
In other Everton news, a former England international has claimed that a Toffees midfielder is on borrowed time at Goodison Park.
