Robinson claims Everton man must be ‘worried’ about his future

One of the most disappointing aspects of this season so far for Everton has been the lack of production from their attacking players.

The Toffees have invested millions and millions in the final third of the pitch in recent years, but it’s not quite clicked to date.

Chief amongst those big-money stars who have failed to really deliver has been midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Indeed, former England international Paul Robinson believes he’s been so bad that he needs to worry about his future on Merseyside.

“I don’t think any of them at Everton have got long to turn it around because [Carlo] Ancelotti has come in there to turn things around and a manager of his ilk is able to attract players of top, top quality,” he told Football Insider.

“There will be a whole new level of player interested in coming to Everton and I think Sigurdsson will be watching over his shoulder. I don’t think he’s performed well all season.

“There will be a lot of players worried about what’s going to happen in January because I suspect there’s not going to be another huge budget to spend. I think Ancelotti will have to sell before he buys.”

It certainly seems like Sigurdsson needs to be looking over his shoulder. But yet, he captained the Toffees in their win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

Was that a red herring from Ancelotti, or is he actually a big fan of the Iceland international? No-one but the Italian really knows.

But Robinson’s right, Sigurdsson hasn’t been good enough this campaign. One goal and one assist this season simply isn’t enough from a player of his quality.

In other Everton news, the Toffees faithful have been left blown away by one man’s performance on Saturday.
