Bent buzzing about reported Everton transfer swoop

After the horrible first half of the season experienced by Everton, the supporters were understandably expecting a big January transfer window.

However, that has yet to fully materialise thus far. There’s still plenty of time, of course, but little has been done at this moment in time.

The Toffees are being linked with plenty of new recruits, though, make no mistake about that.

Indeed, they have even been linked with a high profile swoop for Carlo Ancelotti’s former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

That’s a potential move that’s been met with a big thumbs up from former England international Darren Bent.

“What a signing that would be,” he told Football Insider. “A couple of years back, he was absolutely fantastic, when he was at PSG, he was a joke.

“He’s one of those players when I was on Football Manager, I’d sign him, he was that good. I mean they’d have a great midfield there, [Andre] Gomes when he comes back, Rabiot if they get him over the line…

“And it doesn’t surprise me as Ancelotti being the manager of Everton you get linked to these type players, and no disrespect but Everton wouldn’t have been linked to these type of players if Duncan Ferguson or Marco Silva was in charge.”

Is a move for Rabiot realistic?

That’s the big question, but Everton fans might not like the answer. Ancelotti increases Everton’s ability to attract top talent, as Bent says, but this might be a step too far.

Juventus probably won’t want to sell Rabiot just yet, despite his slow start to life in Turin. They’ll know they’ve got a terrific midfielder on their hands if he can just settle in.

Perhaps a loan deal could might be a possibility, but even then it’s a long shot. If Rabiot leaves Juve he’ll have his pick of teams, and Everton might not be his first choice.

In other Everton news, the club are reportedly weighing up a late-window swoop for a Bundesliga midfielder.
