Report: Everton may do midfielder deal at end of the month
Everton are somewhat light in the middle of the park, and have been since the horrific injury suffered by star man Andre Gomes earlier this season.
The constant setbacks sustained by big money summer signing Jean-Philippe Gbamin haven’t helped either, of course.
And so it makes sense that the Toffees are looking to do a deal for a central midfielder in the January transfer window.
Indeed, French outlet Foot Mercato reported on Wednesday that the Merseyside club could do a deal for Schalke midfielder Nabil Bentaleb.
However, the report stresses that the Blues won’t bring the former Tottenham Hotspur man in, if they were to sign him, until the end of the window.
Instead, their Premier League rivals Crystal Palace have moved into pole position for the 25-year-old.
It’s thought that Bentaleb has no future is Gelsenkirchen and that several teams have contacted Schalke since the transfer window opened.
Is Bentaleb the right man for Everton?
The centre of midfield is obviously an area of need for the Toffees. They are particularly light at the position at present.
However, Bentaleb hasn’t played for Schalke all season due to character concerns, despite being managed by a thoroughly good bloke in David Wagner.
With that said, there are surely superior options out there for the Blues that don’t come with the same red flags as the former Spurs man.
