Report: Everton in for Inter Milan midfielder
Central midfield certainly seems to be an area of the pitch that new Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti is keen to strengthen this month.
The Toffees have been rather light in the middle of the park this season due to the injuries suffered by Andre Gomes and Jean-Philippe Gbamin.
That’s resulted in Gylfi Sigurdsson dropping into a deeper role than he’s used to, often with disastrous consequences.
And so it’s no surprise that the Blues boss is looking to make a splash in centre mid this month.
One of the players he’s thought to be targeting is Inter Milan stalwart Matias Vecino. Italian outlet Calcio Mercato reported on Thursday that Everton made contact with Inter about the player on Wednesday.
The 41-cap Uruguay international is said to have been offered to Tottenham Hotspur as part of a potential deal for Christian Eriksen, but Ancelotti’s team are also lurking.
A meeting about the 28-year-old’s future is scheduled to take place on Thursday, where Vecino’s desire to leave is expected to be established.
Is Vecino the answer for Ancelotti?
Well, he’s certainly a useful player. The Inter star has made 17 appearances this season, scoring twice and providing one assist.
You know that if he’s playing regularly for an Antonio Conte team that he’s a hard worker – the former Chelsea boss settles for nothing less.
This is certainly someone who’d represent an upgrade on the likes of Sigurdsson and Morgan Schneiderlin, and could form a nice partnership with Tom Davies if the Toffees can lure him to Goodison.
In other Everton news, it’s reported that a different Serie A team want £42million for a Blues transfer target.
