Report: Everton regularly scouting Scottish sensation
This Everton team needs more goals, that’s for sure. Ever since Romelu Lukaku departed in 2017, it’s been a struggle up front for the Toffees.
Young striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has looked a lot better of late, while Richarlison is always capable of popping up with a goal.
However, a reliable number nine who gets 20 goals a season? That remains tantalisingly out of reach for the Merseyside outfit.
Perhaps Moise Kean will develop into that, but new manager Carlo Ancelotti will want more firepower to support the young Italian.
Indeed, the Daily Record reported on Thursday that Everton have been watching Scottish striking sensation Lawrence Shankland regularly for the last several months.
Rangers, Celtic, Brentford, Middlesbrough and Queens Park Rangers are all also in for the 24-year-old.
However, you’d expect the Toffees to be able to outmuscle any of those teams if it came down to a bidding war.
Is Shankland good enough for Everton?
It’s really hard to say how good Shankland is because of the level he’s played at. We’ve seen players take a little while to develop before, and it seems that the Scotland international is one such case.
He’s been operating at Scottish Championship level this season, but his 24 goals in 24 games for Dundee United remains extremely impressive. Plus, he’s got one goal in two caps for his country.
Who knows if he’d be good enough to challenge Calvert-Lewin and Kean, and indeed it might be better to seek out a more established option, but no-one would be upset if the Toffees took a punt on the striker.
In other Everton news, the club have reportedly made contact with an Italian heavyweight over a central midfielder.
