Report: Everton target left out of match day squad

The central midfield search which has seemingly possessed new Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti this month has yet to reap any rewards.

The Italian, if you believe what you read, has been looking into several different targets to shore up the middle of the park.

One player who has seemingly caught his eye is Inter Milan midfielder Matias Vecino. Reliable Italian journalist Nicolo Schira claimed earlier this week that the Toffees are in talks for the Uruguay international.

Now, on Sunday the Daily Star reported that the 28-year-old has been left out of Inter’s match day squad to face Lecce on the same day.

Antonio Conte is thought to want to offload the midfielder as he looks to free up funds to finalise a deal for Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Christian Eriksen.

Is this a sign Vecino is heading to Goodison?

Perhaps, but perhaps not. The midfielder has been touted with moves to Spurs and to West Ham United, as well, so it’s not a guarantee he’s off to Merseyside.

However, Ancelotti does seem to be the closest to reeling him in. The club were reportedly already in talks for the Uruguayan and now he’s missed the Lecce game. Things are definitely pointing in the right direction.

Good thing too, because the Toffees midfield is really short on quality at the moment. We saw it again against the Hammers on Saturday. Vecino is much-needed.

In other Everton news, a former Blues defender has taken a shot at one of the team’s starting players on Saturday.
