Report: Everton target not keen on move to Goodison Park
The wait for a big Everton signing this month continues to go on, despite the myriad links to top talents across the continent.
Anyone who watched the Toffees throw away a two-goal lead in the dying embers against Newcastle United on Tuesday night will attest that they need reinforcements.
Still we wait, though. Indeed, the latest noises around a potentially excellent central midfield signing aren’t good at all.
Italian outlet FC Inter News reported on Thursday that the Merseysiders hold an interest in Inter Milan midfielder Matias Vecino.
That’s well established at this point, however. The revelation present in the report is that the player himself isn’t sold on a move to Goodison Park.
It’s said that the Uruguay international wants to move to a team that has cup football, not just league obligations.
Still, Inter want to cash in on the player immediately as he is no longer in manager Antonio Conte’s plans.
Should Everton move on from Vecino?
If he doesn’t want to join then they probably should. Money talks, of course, and Everton have plenty of that, but is another player who thinks they’re doing the club a favour what they need right now?
Vecino is a quality central midfielder, and certainly an upgrade on the likes of Fabian Delph, Morgan Schneiderlin and Tom Davies.
However, Ancelotti needs hungry players who will buy into the project at Goodison. Vecino, it seems, is not one of those.
In other Everton news, a former England international has claimed that it would take a huge offer to persuade to Toffees to sell a star man this month.
