Robinson claims it would take ‘ridiculous’ offer for Everton to sell in-demand star
Everton defender Mason Holgate is one of the few Toffees players – along with Dominic Calvert-Lewin – to have emerged from this season so far with credit.
The 23-year-old has taken a big step forward this campaign, emerging as the most reliable centre half at the club.
He has also demonstrated his versatility by slotting into central midfield at times, as well, with no lessening of his excellence.
So it will have been alarming for Toffees fans to read earlier this week that two offers have reportedly been made for the youngster.
However, former England international Paul Robinson feels it would take a monumental bid to tear the defender away from Goodison Park.
“He has developed into the player they thought he was a couple of years ago,” he told Football Insider.
“He has seemed to have found his right position at the right time for his age. He and Tom Davies have been standout performers this season for Everton, especially Holgate.
“I cannot see any offer, unless it was astronomically ridiculous, that Everton would accept for him.”
Could Holgate really leave Everton?
Probably not in this window, no. However, the vultures will circle if Holgate continues his fine form over the second half of the season and potentially into the summer with England.
At that point, there may well be big teams in for him, and it could prove difficult for the Toffees to keep him. We already know that both Arsenal and Manchester City have a need at centre back.
For now, though, the youngster will likely remain where he is and continue to develop under a world class manager in Carlo Ancelotti.
In other Everton news, winger Theo Walcott has been raving over a Toffees team-mate who has blown him away on the training ground.
