Goodison News View: Everton right to resist attempts to steal improving ace
Although Everton need to get rid of plenty of deadwood in the years to come – recent recruitment has been that bad – this transfer window isn’t the time.
This month should be all about incomings for Toffees boss Carlo Ancelotti, giving him the pieces he needs to go along with what he already has at the club. From there he can get a better idea of who needs to go in the summer.
For now, though, the Italian needs to keep hold of what he’s got so that he can assess everyone.
It’s no surprise then, that Italian outlet Tutto Mercato reported on Thursday that when Serie A outfit Parma made a loan bid for Blues striker Moise Kean, Ancelotti and co. told them where to go.
That is absolutely the right decision.
Simply put, there is no reason to part with Kean right now. The 19-year-old is amidst his best run of form for the club – not saying too much, I know – and bagged his first goal in a blue shirt against Newcastle United on Tuesday night.
He’s a teenager in a new country and an entirely different league, so this first season could almost be considered a write-off for Kean. Certainly, he’d probably like to look at the first half of it that way.
He now seems to be making progress and finding his feet, so the last thing he needs is to have the rug pulled under him by a six-month move back to Italy.
Ancelotti’s focus needs to be – and seemingly is – moulding the prodigiously talented teenager into the type of consistent goalscorer not seen at Goodison Park since the heady days of Romelu Lukaku.
It’s for that reason that the Toffees’ rejection of Parma’s approach should be counted among their finest bits of transfer business this month.
In other Everton news, former Blues great Kevin Campbell has urged the club to seal a £42million deal.
