‘Pay the money’ – Campbell urges Everton to seal midfielder deal

The pursuit of a new central midfielder which has appeared such a priority for Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti is one of the stories of the transfer window.

It’s not been widely reported in terms of the national media, but those on the blue half of Merseyside are cognisant to the fact that the Toffees boss clearly wants to improve his options in the middle of the park.

One of the names who has been mentioned a fair bit in recent days is Napoli midfielder Allan, who Ancelotti obviously knows well from his previous post.

However, the Daily Star reported on Friday that it would take a colossal offer of £42million for the Blues to snare the Brazilian.

Despite the hefty transfer fee, former Everton striker Kevin Campbell was in no doubt that a deal should be done.

“Pay the money and get him as Ancelotti knows the difference he can make to the team!,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account on Friday.

“Do it!!!,” he finished.

Should the Toffees follow Campbell’s advice?

First of all, £42million is a lot of money. You’d need to be 100% sure of what you’re getting to invest that kind of cash in a player.

Ancelotti, though, knows Allan in and out. He’s been at the helm in recent years as the 29-year-old has developed into one of the finest central midfielders in Serie A.

That number is another thing to consider, though. 29 is very old for this sort of transfer fee, and so you’d expect three or four years of excellence from Allan to make up for it. Could he provide that? He very well could, but it’s whether there are better, younger options out there for the Toffees.
