Journalist: German side interested in Everton winger
Sometimes a lot is expected of young players, and then they simply don’t deliver. It appears that that could be the case with Everton starlet Antony Evans.
There was hope for a while that the winger could breakthrough and become a fixture of the Toffees first team. However, it’s simply not happened that way.
The 21-year-old has yet to make a senior appearance for the Merseyside club, and now it looks like he could be on his way out.
The Times journalist Paul Joyce claimed on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday that German side SC Paderborn 07 are interested in Evans.
The player is out of contract at the end of the season, so the Bundesliga side may well be looking to tie him down on a pre-contract agreement.
Otherwise they could stump up a small fee to get him this month, or simply wait for him to be come available in a few months’ time.
Is this a good move for Evans?
Yeah, why not?
He’s obviously not going to make the grade, otherwise he would have done so by now. 21 is simply too old to have never made a senior appearance.
So it looks like his time is up, and he’ll have an eye on his next move. Germany has emerged as an appealing destination for young British players in recent years, with Jadon Sancho, Jonjoe Kenny and David Bates all flourishing over there.
So Evans could seal a move to Paderborn and then receive a new lease on life, that’s very possible.
