Report: Everton make approach to sign Serie A midfielder
It’s been obvious to anyone watching this season that Everton are a little light on central midfield talent, something which has been a real issue for them.
Some of that’s been down to injury, of course, with Andre Gomes and Jean-Philippe Gbamin missing significant game time.
But mostly it’s been due to players like Gylfi Sigrdusson, Fabian Delph, Tom Davies and Morgan Schneiderlin all underperforming.
It’s natural, then, for supporters to hope for central midfield reinforcements this month, something which may soon materialise.
Football Insider reported on Wednesday that the Toffees have made an approach to sign Sampdoria midfielder Ronaldo Vieira.
The 21-year-old is said to be available for a fee of around £14million in the final days of the transfer window.
Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti is thought to be a big admirer of the former Leeds United man, having seen a lot of him while in his previous post at Napoli.
Is Vieira the man to reinforce the Everton midfield?
If this is all true then Vieira will be a Toffees player in no time. If he’s available, and at a relatively small price, and if Ancelotti is truly keen on him; then it shouldn’t be a problem.
He is a decent player who was good at Leeds and has been similarly solid in Serie A. He’s not a game-changing talent, but he’d shore up the middle of the park.
He would likely be an upgrade on what the club has at the minute, but would that still be the case once Gomes and Gbamin return?
