Ancelotti raves over Everton man not seen since November

It’s impossible to call Everton midfielder Andre Gomes the forgotten man of Goodison Park, because he’s constantly been on people’s minds.

The injury he suffered against Tottenham Hotspur in November was horrific, and he’s obviously not been seen for the first team since.

However, he is certainly ahead of schedule in his recovery, and returned to training for the first time earlier this week.

That’s news that has delighted everyone on the blue half of Merseyside, but none more so than manager Carlo Ancelotti.

“He is a humble guy and he really likes to play,” he told the club’s official website. “For a player who is out for three months like him it is important to try to start with the team. He was really happy this week.

“In training, he is confident, he has no problem, he tries to do everything. I think he can recover soon.

“It is really important [for Gomes to be progressing in his rehabilitation] because first of all he is a player with fantastic quality. He has experience and has played for fantastic teams like Valencia and Barcelona. He can give us his experience and quality.”

Can Gomes make the difference down the stretch this season?

He certainly can, but it’s important to be patient with him. He’s already ahead of schedule, so he needs to take things slowly and ensure he’s fully recovered before he returns to first team action.

The Portugal international is definitely someone who can elevate this Toffees team, though, and he seems like the prototypical Ancelotti player. The manager clearly thinks so, anyway.

Everything sounds good so far in terms of his rehabilitation, and so we can all start to get excited about his eventual return.
