Dion Dublin not having latest Everton transfer report
Everton are a club that has been underachieving for too long now, but the appointment of new manager Carlo Ancelotti was intended to put an end to that.
However, the Italian is likely cognisant that he doesn’t have the squad in place at the moment to break into the Premier League’s top six or seven.
The last thing he needs is to lose his best player, something the club avoided by rejecting an £85million bid from Barcelona for star man Richarlison.
There are some, like former Premier League striker Dion Dublin, though, who still do not appreciate the Brazilian’s brilliance.
“He’s not worth €100m,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live. “I don’t see him as a prolific goalscorer at all.
“I do believe you’ve got everything you’d need to hit any league by storm – with goals. I think he’s got good movement. He spends too long on the ground, for me, he’s not strong enough with his back to goal.
“For me, in today’s market, I’d probably say he’s worth £50million or something. £50million, maybe £60million, but £85million is a lot of money.”
What’s Dublin on about, here?
Everton signed Richarlison initially in the summer of 2018 for a deal that could end up costing £50million, so is Dublin saying the 22-year-old’s value hasn’t gone up while he’s been at Goodison? That’s just ridiculous.
Perhaps he wouldn’t be worth £85million to a Manchester City or a Liverpool, but you have to think about the player’s value to their specific team. That’s the reason why Crystal Palace demanded so much for Wilfried Zaha last summer: because he was worth that much to them.
So while Dublin may feel that Richarlison’s not an £85million player, the fact is that he is for Everton.
In other Everton news, the club are expected to only be doing loan deals in the remainder of the transfer window.
