Report: Everton anticipating interest in star man
Everton forward Richarlison has been the star man at Goodison Park pretty much since the moment he arrived from Watford in the summer of 2018.
He scored 14 goals in his debut campaign, followed by another 10 so far this season, and is undoubtedly the most talented player at the club.
However, no-one expected that he would already be a transfer target for a club as ginormous as Barcelona. Yet that’s exactly what Sky Sports News reported on Wednesday.
The Toffees are thought to have rejected an £85million bid from the Spanish champions, with Carlo Ancelotti desperate to build his squad around his star man.
Indeed, the Liverpool Echo reported later on that the club have knocked back talk of a Barca bid, but are bracing themselves for intensified interest in the 22-year-old.
Barcelona are said to have made their interest in the Brazilian international known, but no formal bid has actually been made.
Still, it’s thought that it would take an offer way beyond £85million for the club to consider letting the youngster go.
Is this the right stance from Everton?
In a word, yes.
Richarlison is a quality operator and is the type of player Everton simply have to keep if they are going to go to the next level under Ancelotti.
£85million for a 22-year-old as talented as Richarlison simply isn’t enough, not in today’s market.
In other Everton news, a talkSPORT duo has ripped into the Blues for the very same transfer story we’ve just discussed.
