Robinson wowed by Sky Sports’ Everton transfer report

The Richarlison to Barcelona from Everton story which emerged on Wednesday afternoon was one that took the footballing world by surprise.

Sky Sports claimed that the Toffees had rejected a colossal £85million bid from the Spanish champions for the 22-year-old attacker.

That’s news which has divided pundits and Everton fans, with the former thinking the Blues were mad to turn the offer down and the latter claiming it was nowhere near enough to snare their star man.

Former England international Paul Robinson, though, feels the Merseysiders sent a huge message by rejecting Barca’s approach.

“That’s a massive statement from any club, especially one that’s spent as much money as Everton have,” he told Football Insider. “They’ve got a lot of players in [under] previous managers, it’s well documented how much they’ve spent.

“They’ve made a statement by getting [Carlo] Ancelotti, players will come to Everton because of Ancelotti and it shows the way the club are wanting to go if they’re holding off bids of that magnitude.”

Is Robinson right, here?

He’s absolutely correct that the Toffees have made a couple of big statements recently by bringing in Ancelotti and then rejecting this mega money bid for their best player.

But this is kind of to be expected. You don’t appoint a manager like Ancelotti and then sweep the rug from under him by selling his star man.

Everton ultimately want to be a big club competing in European competition, so you can’t sell your best players. It’s simply logic really, Paul.

In other Everton news, Ancelotti has been raving over one Toffees star not seen in action since November.
