Ratcliffe credits one man with late Everton win over Watford

The victory that Everton secured late on against Watford on Saturday was a monumental one, and it looked improbable at one stage.

The Toffees were 2-0 down and playing woefully. Still, a surprise brace from Yerry Mina and a late winner from Theo Walcott later, and they’d sealed all three points at Vicarage Road.

The fact that they did so with 10 men after central midfielder Fabian Delph’s red card is even more impressive.

The goals came from hugely surprising sources, with Mina a powerhouse defender not used to finding the back of the net and Walcott having failed to score all season up until this point.

Still, one man who can always be relied upon is Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti, who is undoubtedly one of the finest managers in the game.

Indeed, Toffees legend Kevin Ratcliffe feels that the bulk of the credit for the win should go to the Italian.

“Don’t think this result would have happened if Carlo wasn’t in charge,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account.

Is Ratcliffe right?

It’s hard to say, obviously, but Ancelotti has certainly had a positive impact at Goodison Park. The team are much harder to beat now, let’s just say that.

Under Marco Silva they might have collapsed against the Hornets or been unable to fight back to gain one point, let alone three.

But Ancelotti is a motivating presence, because players want to impress him. He’s galvanised his squad and so some of the credit for this win must go to him.
