Robinson feels Everton first teamer wanted to leave in January
Everton had a quiet January transfer window for the most part, signing just one young player, but things heated up a bit towards the end of the month.
Sky Sports News emerged with a report earlier this week that the Toffees had rejected a monster £85million bid from Barcelona for attacker Richarlison.
That was quite the revelation, although Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti was keen to stress on Friday that no official bid had been lodged.
Former England international Paul Robinson, though, feels that the Brazilian probably would’ve liked to make the switch to the Nou Camp.
“Anybody’s going to be tempted by Barcelona, when you put it into a real concept and into real time, Barcelona, Real Madrid are two of the world superpowers of world football,” he told Football Insider.
“You get an opportunity to go to Barcelona or Real Madrid, they don’t come knocking that often. If you’re a top player they maybe come for you once in your career and if you miss the opportunity you may live to regret it.
“If Barcelona want him I don’t think that’ll be the last bid. It will be an interesting situation to monitor the player’s attitude towards it.”
Does Robinson have a point, here?
You can see what’s he saying. Obviously Barcelona are one of the biggest teams in world football, and certainly much bigger than Everton, so anyone would want that move.
However, the Spanish champions went and got Francisco Trincão from Braga on deadline day, with him joining at the end of the season. So they’re pretty much set at Richarlison’s position.
It feels unlikely that Barca will come back in for Richarlison in the future, so hopefully he’ll be at Goodison Park for some time now.
In other Everton news, Ancelotti has been speaking about the future of one in-demand Toffees star.
