Paul Robinson claims Ancelotti attracts ‘different kind of player’ after latest Everton report

Paul Robinson has offered his opinion on Everton’s reported pursuit of Lille central defender Gabriel.

The Toffees are understood to have had a bid rejected for the 22-year-old Brazilian last month, with Premier League rivals Arsenal slams said to have failed in an effort to bring him to England, as per Le 10 Sport.

However, the report from the French outlet also suggested that the Blues will make another move in the summer.

And Robinson has claimed that signing Gabriel would be a smart move.

When asked whether he could see Everton revisiting the deal in the summer, he said: Potentially, they’ve got Michael Keane there. A player of quality, if you’re able to bring someone like that into the squad, then you do that.

“They obviously didn’t do any business in the window and they didn’t do any business for a reason because the right players weren’t available. They’ve spent widely under previous manager Marco Silva, they spent heavily.

“I don’t think they’re going to splash the cash willy-nilly. A manager like Ancelotti attracts a different type of player.”

Would Gabriel be a good signing?

You’d definitely be inclined to say yes.

As Robinson hints at here, Ancelotti doesn’t tend to buy flops, and Gabriel looks as if he has the potential to be a real success wherever he ends up.

At just 22 he has plenty of potential, looks as if he is already making good on a lot of that promise.

So far this season he has average 3.4 aerial duels won and 3.4 clearances per game, as per Whoscored, and is clearly a commanding presence.

That kind of player will never go out of style, and if the Toffees can beat the Gunners to his signature then it could be a real coup.
