Kevin Campbell gushes over Everton star who deserves international call-up
Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been one of the main success stories of this up-and-down season at Goodison Park.
From a promising player but an inconsistent goalscorer, he has blossomed into a quality centre forward who one of the world’s best managers has chosen to lean on.
Since coming into the club, Carlo Ancelotti has seemingly made it a priority to get the best out of the 22-year-old – and he certainly has.
The youngster has now begun to be touted for a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad, something which former Toffees attacker Kevin Campbell thinks would be richly deserved,
“I think Gareth Southgate could do a lot worse than having a look at Dominic Calvert-Lewin, to be honest,” he told Love Sport Radio.
“He’s a form striker, he’s young, why not have a look at him? You’ve got the opportunity now to have a look at some of these players.
“There aren’t many strikers in better form than Dominic Calvert-Lewin at the moment.”
Does DCL deserve an England call-up?
Of course he does. Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford are injured, while Jamie Vardy remains very much retired.
You’ve got a few options moving forward – but it would appear that Calvert-Lewin and Danny Ings are the two form strikers heading into the next international break.
The Toffees star is now on 13 goals for the season, while he’s managed to bag eight strikes in his last 11 Premier League games.
He really is a quality player now, while his all-round game and youth perhaps gives him the edge over Ings in Southgate’s eyes. Either way, he should be involved next time out.
In other Everton news, a talkSPORT pundit has criticised a Toffees regular for his recent comments.
