talkSPORT pundit baffled by Everton regular after controversial comments
It’s safe to say that Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford’s time at Goodison Park has been rather up and down. Consistency has been a problem.
The England international is a talented shot-stopper, which he does show at times, but he’s made a number of costly errors.
The same thing occurred in the 3-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday, where he somehow allowed Christian Benteke’s tame effort to get past him.
Yet the former Sunderland man decided to make comments about how he gets more criticism than others because he’s an England star, naming Gary Neville personally.
That’s something that former Premier League footballer Jamie O’Hara thinks is rather difficult to swallow.
“He can be a little bit inconsistent, but he’s a fantastic ‘keeper,” he said on talkSPORT. “For him, why would he listen to a Gary Neville or a [Jamie] Carragher?
“You’re in the limelight, and you’re going to be under scrutiny all the time. You have to take the rough with the smooth. When you play well you’re gonna get plaudits, when you play bad someone’s gonna hammer ya.
“The best thing you can do to prove people wrong is get your head down and continue to play in the Premier League.”
Why would Pickford listen to critics?
That’s the big question, and it’s something that applies to a lot of players. You would’ve thought they’d ignore all their critics and just focus on their own game.
However, it seems like plenty of them pay attention and listen to the negative things that people say about them.
Pickford has a bit of a chip on his shoulder, it seems. But, to be honest, he simply needs to play better – that’s it.
He’s been poor this campaign, making a number of errors. He needs to concentrate on fixing that, rather than lashing out at pundits whose job it is to critique players.
