Danny Mills lauds potential ‘bargain’ Everton signing
The curious case of Everton right back Djibril Sidibe is just that, curious. He’s been solid this season, but consistency has been an issue.
The French World Cup winner, who has been on loan from Monaco this campaign, is a versatile and useful player.
However, he’s not been able to put together a solid run of form, with outstanding efforts alternating with mediocre outings.
Still, it was reported recently that the Toffees have an option in their loan deal to purchase the 27-year-old for £12million at the end of the season.
Former England international Danny Mills believes that the Merseyside outfit would be mad not to exercise that option.
“Well, £12million in this day and age, you’re almost looking at League One players and lower Championship players,” he told Football Insider.
“£12million is a bargain, of course it all depends on wages and everything else that comes with that but yeah, as long as they are adding quality to the squad, better than what you’ve got or better than what you can get, then yeah.
“These deals for players are always vital and you’re always happy to keep them around.”
Should Everton do a deal for Sidibe?
It’s a tough call. £12million isn’t much money in today’s market, as Mills says. However, it’s whether Everton really need to do that deal.
Sidibe operates at right back and on the right wing. However, Carlo Ancelotti has options at both positions moving forward.
Jonjoe Kenny is scheduled to return from his loan spell at Schalke at the end of the campaign, and he should really become the club’s new first choice right back.
Meanwhile, you have the likes of Theo Walcott, Alex Iwobi and Anthony Gordon to play on the right wing, so they’re set their as well.
Signing Sidibe wouldn’t be a bad deal, but it may not be as necessary as Mills feels.
In other Everton news, Mills has also had his say on a controversial issue regarding a Toffees regular.
