Report: Everton in final stages of contract talks with in-form ace
One of the biggest stars of this up-and-down season for Everton has been young striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
The 22-year-old has emerged as a consistent and quality scorer in the Premier League, amassing 13 goals in all competitions thus far.
The youngster has managed to sharpen his eye for goal, while maintaining the fantastic all-round game which has always been his trademark.
If there is rising interest in the Toffees star’s services then it would come as no surprise. Needless to say, though, keeping the man known as ‘DCL’ is imperative for Carlo Ancelotti.
It looks like the club have been working to do just that, because Football Insider reported on Thursday that the club are close to finalising a contract extension for the attacker.
The Merseyside outfit have moved to tie the youngster down to improved terms with interest from Europe’s elite growing amid his recent goalscoring run.
It’s said that he’s been offered a new long-term deal that will see him rocket into the club’s upper tier of earners.
That means a weekly wage of nearly £100,000-per-week; rich reward for an outstanding last couple of months.
How huge is this news for Everton?
It’s absolutely massive. Calvert-Lewin has emerged as one of the most in-form players in the Premier League, and a crucial part of Ancelotti’s team.
The young striker is one of the first names on the team sheet at the moment, and so keeping him is crucial.
If it’s true that Europe’s big teams are sniffing around – and why wouldn’t they? – then securing a new contract for ‘DCL’ is a humongous deal.
Hopefully he will stick around for a long while and be a major part in Ancelotti getting the club to where it needs to be.
In other Everton news, the club are reportedly in a three-team chase for a Turkey international utility man.
