Report: British giants to make second move for Everton defender

One of the most underrated moves of the January transfer window was Everton sending young centre back Lewis Gibson to Fleetwood Town on loan.

The 19-year-old has long been viewed as a highly promising player, and so the Toffees’ ability to tie him down to a new contract and secure him a loan move should be viewed as a big success.

The former Newcastle United academy product was highly sought-after in the winter window, before Fleetwood won the race.

But it will be interesting to see what the Blues do with him moving forward, because he’s a real talent.

Rangers

Well, Football Insider reported on Friday that British giants Rangers are set to make a second swoop for Gibson in the summer, having failed with an offer last month.

Steven Gerrard wanted to add the youngster to his ranks in January, but lost out to Joey Barton and Fleetwood.

The Toffees are said to be likely to loan the teenager out again next campaign, and the Ibrox side are ready to come back in.

However, Carlo Ancelotti and co. will have a look at him before deciding on his next move, but they are cognisant of the need for him to get regular first team football.

Would Rangers be a good next move for Gibson?

Probably, yes. He’s made a strong impact at Fleetwood already, helping them to three wins in the three games he’s played thus far.

League One is a decent level of football where he should play regularly and do pretty well over the next few months.

But you’d want him to play at a higher level next season, and so Rangers would be an ideal next step for him.

He’d still likely play week in week out, but this time for a massive club in front of sell-out crowds every home game. That would be the ideal preparation for life at Everton.

In other Everton news, the club are reportedly on the verge of agreeing a new contract with an in-form star.
