Report: Club to turn down purchase option on Everton flop

Winger Yannick Bolasie has turned out to be a spectacular flop at Everton; a player of prodigious talent who has fallen on hard times.

Loan spells at Anderlecht and Aston Villa failed to revitalise him, and so he was shipped off to Sporting Lisbon on a temporary basis for this campaign.

Any hope that the 30-year-old would play well enough to earn himself a permanent move to the Portuguese capital has slowly died.

He’s got two goals and four assists in 22 games this season, not horrendous but hardly spectacular.

However, it seems that his output hasn’t done enough to convince Sporting that they need him around long-term.

Portuguese outfit O Jogo via Sport Witness reported recently that Silas’ side will not exercise their purchase option in Bolasie’s loan contract.

It would cost them just £3.7million to make his loan permanent, but they’ve not been compelled to do so.

Bolasie was sent off during a cup game last month, and has missed the past three games, but only one due to his suspension. The other two he was simply left out.

Will Everton ever be able to get rid of Bolasie?

That’s the big question, and it’s looking increasingly likely that he will just be sticking around until his contract expires.

That won’t happen until 2021, so there is still a fair bit of time for his £75,000-per-week contract to drain the club’s finances [Source: Spotrac].

That’s not ideal, and the Toffees will undoubtedly look to sell him once again come the summer.

However, there won’t be many teams willing to pay a fee and swallow up his wage demands.
