Danny Mills raves over latest Everton injury news
The remarkable recovery of Everton midfielder Andre Gomes has been quite something, and it’s certainly gotten people talking.
There were fears that the 26-year-old’s entire season was in jeopardy after he fell victim to a horror challenge from Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-min in November.
However, he has been back training for a little while now, and on Sunday he played an entire friendly match behind-closed-doors at the club’s training complex.
It now appears that he could return to first team action this month, with Sunday’s clash with Arsenal a real possibility.
Former England international Danny Mills has been delighted at the news regarding the Portugal international.
“I think it is great when you see a player that has been so influential,” he told Football Insider.
“When a player has a horrific injury, comes back and starts playing – it is just a good feeling. Everyone feels happy for him.
“Coming back and seeing him put a shirt on – even if it is behind closed doors. You will not see it directly but the whole training ground, the staff – it is a shot in the arm for everybody when a player comes back from a long-term injury.”
This is a big boost, right?
Yes, it’s massive. Gomes is one of the most talented players at Goodison Park. You don’t play for Valencia and Barcelona for nothing.
Central midfield has been a weak spot for much of the campaign for the Toffees, with both Gomes and Jean-Philippe Gbamin missing significant time due to injuries.
So having him back in the fray will obviously be huge for the Blues from a competitive point of view.
But it will also be fantastic for morale, as Mills says. Seeing him back playing will give everyone a lift, that’s for sure.
