Everton star reveals influence Arsenal boss had on him
It’s no surprise that Everton winger Alex Iwobi learned a lot from the numerous top players who were at his former club Arsenal.
Say what you want about the Gunners and their many failings over the past few years, but they’ve always had world class players.
Growing up around that club as a young player will have been fascinating, and many influences will have been felt by the Nigerian.
One of those who seemingly had a big impact on Iwobi was former Arsenal midfielder – and now manager – Mikel Arteta.
The Spaniard was rumoured to be in the running for the job at Goodison Park before he ended up at the Emirates, of course.
Still, Iwobi already experienced his wisdom back at Arsenal.
“Mikel was another big influence,” he said, as per the Daily Mirror. “He was injured at the time and would play and train with the Under-21s.
“He would talk to me, telling me to get on the half-turn, stay alert and sharp, ready to make an impact.”
Can Iwobi come back to haunt the Gunners on Sunday?
He certainly could. The youngster has immense ability, even if he’s not really been able to get started at Goodison.
But Sunday’s clash with his former team could be one where Carlo Ancelotti decides to throw him in from the start.
Iwobi will be keen to make an impact against the north London side, and it would be no surprise to see him do so.
Either way, he will have learned a lot from Arteta, but that could now come at the Spaniard’s detriment.
In other Everton news, a European side are reportedly looking to poach a Toffees striker come the summer.
