Bent blown away by one Everton man v Arsenal

Although Everton lost 3-2 to Arsenal in a thrilling contest on Sunday afternoon, there was one positive moment that everyone there enjoyed.

Despite the game being held at the Emirates Stadium, every supporter in the ground was happy to see Toffees midfielder Andre Gomes make his comeback from injury.

The Portugal international suffered a devastating broken leg in early November, but made a fantastic recovery.

The fact that he came on and put in a performance that put months of outings from his fellow Everton central midfielders to shame was simply extraordinary.

Former England international Darren Bent was one of those who was blown away by what Gomes offered up on Sunday.

“I was so happy to see Gomes, he was so good. In the second half you could see where they miss him,” he told Football Insider.

“He’s so comfortable in possession, and his range of passing, left and right foot, he impressed me. I thought: ‘Wow, that’s what they’ve been missing.’

“It’s testament to himself to get himself back so quickly. That was a nasty one, I thought he could have been out for ages. He played well.”

How good was it to have Gomes back?

It was phenomenal to see the 26-year-old take up his place in the Blues’ midfield once again.

Like Bent says, you feared for him when you saw him go down under that challenge from Son Heung-min.

It was an atrocious tackle and it looked like Gomes would probably miss the rest of the season at the very least.

The fact that he has come back so quickly, looking like he hasn’t missed a beat, was astonishing to witness.

In other Everton news, a former Celtic player has claimed that the Toffees are on the trail of a Hoops striker.
