Sam Allardyce raves over Everton ace who starred v Arsenal

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin continued his fine goalscoring form for his club with a strike against Arsenal in the Toffees’ 3-2 defeat on Sunday.

The 22-year-old’s latest goal made it 14 for the season, form that has garnered him a growing list of admirers.

There is now genuine talk about him being a part of the England squad that heads to Euro 2020 this summer.

Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate is currently without arguably his top two strikers, Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford, who are both injured.

That’s something that has gotten former Toffees boss Sam Allardyce calling for Calvert-Lewin’s inclusion.

“Unbelievable. I think that Gareth has to get his boys to go and watch him,” he said on talkSPORT.

“I’ve said many a time that the only thing missing in Dominic’s armour was goals, and those goals are coming now and they’re coming in on a regular basis.

“If Harry Kane is struggling – and Marcus Rashford – I think he should definitely come into the picture based on his experience in the Premier League, his age and his quality.”

Does DCL deserve an England call-up?

He’s certainly right on the precipice. There are some friendlies coming up and, with Kane and Rashford sidelined, it would be shocking if Southgate didn’t take the opportunity to look at Calvert-Lewin.

As Allardyce says, the big question over the Toffees frontman was always whether he could regularly find the back of the net.

He’s answering that query now, and it’s been fantastic to witness. His overall game was already so good, though, that he is now surely good enough for a Three Lions call-up.

He’s got to be ahead of the likes of Callum Wilson in the pecking order, and likely right there with Danny Ings. He’s deserving of a look, surely.
