Club president confirms price tag for reported Everton target

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford’s battle for consistency in recent seasons has been well documented, particularly over the past month or so.

The former Sunderland man remains an elite shot-stopper, but individual mistakes have plagued him throughout his time on Merseyside.

He hasn’t helped himself with some of his off-the-field antics and comments towards members of the media either.

There hasn’t been much questioning of the England number one’s long-term future at Goodison Park, though.

But with his struggles continuing this campaign, it wouldn’t be a shock to anyone if the Toffees looked elsewhere for help between the sticks.

Well, Turkish outlet Fanatik reported recently that the Blues had sent scouts to watch Trabzonspor shot-stopper Ugurcan Cakir in action.

Now, the Super Lig club’s president Ahmet Agaoglu has spoken out on the player’s future: “In my opinion Ugurcan Cakir is one of the three best goalkeepers in Europe and a huge prospect for Turkish football,” he said, as per Turkish Football.

“We want €20-25m, it could be as high as €30m for him but of course we also hope he stays.”

Should Everton go in for Cakir?

There are three prices named by Agaoglu, here. In pound sterling they are £16.7million, £20.8million and £25million.

That’s not a whole lot of money to pay for a top class ‘keeper. Cakir is unproven outside of Turkey, of course, but he has all the hallmarks of being a very good goalkeeper.

There’s no doubt that some added competition would be good for Pickford. Lord knows he’s not getting it from Maarten Stekelenburg at the moment.

Cakir could well be the answer, but the Toffees may feel that they have more pressing issues to address this summer than the goalkeeper position.

In other Everton news, a former England international has been raving about something he saw on Sunday.
