Paul Robinson in awe of ‘outstanding’ Everton sight he witnessed on Sunday

The recovery from a broken leg by Everton midfielder Andre Gomes has been one of the stories of this historic Premier League season.

The campaign will be remembered in the history books for Liverpool’s impending title win, of course.

But for the Toffees faithful, one of the most enduring memories from this up-and-down season will be the Portugal international returning to the fray against Arsenal on Sunday.

The 26-year-old suffered a shocking injury in early November, and there were fears he’d miss the rest of the campaign. No matter, he made it back by late February.

Former England international Paul Robinson was one of those who was delighted to see Gomes back on the pitch.

“It’s just brilliant to see, it was such a horrific injury on the eye and for the player as well, for everyone at Goodison and on the pitch, it was one of those horror incidents that nobody wants to see,” he told Football Insider.

“It shows the man’s resilience, his willingness and toughness to get back because he could have quite easily taken a long time or not even come back from that injury. He’s still only 26 but you’re thinking what do I have to do, how long’s it going to take?

“It just shows the application, determination and mental strength of the man to do that in the same space of time. To come back in the same season has been absolutely incredible, it’s an outstanding achievement for him.”

It’s great to have Gomes back, isn’t it?

It was fantastic to see the former Barcelona man back strutting his stuff in the middle of the park, and it made such a difference to the Toffees’ midfield.

Robinson’s not overstating the fears that we all had when we first saw Gomes go down against Tottenham Hotspur.

Never mind the worry that his season was over, there were concerns that he’d miss Euro 2020 and that his career might be in some jeopardy, as well.

However, he’s recovered superbly and has been an absolute credit to himself and to Everton.

In other Everton news, it’s being reported that the club have yet to make a decision on the future of a player who started on Sunday.
