Journalist: ‘I know’ AC Milan are in for Everton defender
Everton right back Djibril Sidibe’s situation at the club is an interesting one at the moment. Who knows if he’s going to be at Goodison Park next season?
The World Cup winner is currently on loan at the club from French heavyweights Monaco, and the Toffees have a purchase option in his loan deal.
However, The Times reported on Monday that the Blues have yet to make a unified decision on whether he will be signed permanently or not.
His future has become a hot topic once again after his desperate performance in his team’s 3-2 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday.
Now, reliable journalist Chris Beesley has weighed in with his view on what the future holds for the Frenchman.
“I would say Sidibe as the loan player is possibly in the weakest position here [compared to Seamus Coleman and Jonjoe Kenny], in that they might say he’s done alright and played well at times even playing further up the field, but perhaps with it only being a loan we could say ‘thanks, but no thanks’,” he told the Liverpool Echo.
“He might have other options himself, I know the likes of Milan have been linked and he could get a decent option elsewhere. But I’d be inclined to say Sidibe is the one in the weakest position at the minute.
“He’s been up and down and it’s mostly been an encouraging loan spell, but they might decide to look elsewhere. Whether that’s with Seamus and Jonjoe or possibly even another option.”
Should the Blues sign Sidibe permanently?
It’s an interesting question and, as Beesley alludes to, it ultimately depends on where they want to go at the position.
If they’ve seen enough from Kenny on loan at Schalke this campaign, then there’s no point signing Sidibe.
However, they could even go and sign somebody completely different if they want to cash in on Kenny and are unconvinced by Sidibe.
The Monaco man will have interest in his services – with Milan apparently in the hunt – so we’ll have to wait and see what happens here.
In other Everton news, the club reportedly turned down an approach for Tottenham for a star defender.
