Reported Everton target is desperate to move to Ajax
Although Everton have a lot of talent in midfield and in wide areas of the pitch, we haven’t seen a lot of goals coming in from those areas this season.
Yes, you’ll get the odd goal from Theo Walcott or Bernard, but mostly it’s strikes from Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison.
Somebody like Alex Iwobi has yet to deliver the goods, while Gylfi Sigurdsson has endured another frustrating campaign thus far.
Perhaps Andre Gomes’ return will see that change somewhat, given his passing and playmaking ability, but the team still needs more tangible production from midfield.
One of the players who has been linked with a move to Goodison Park recently is AZ Alkmaar winger Oussama Idrissi.
Italian outlet Calcio Mercato reported earlier this month that the Toffees are one of several teams interested in signing the Moroccan sensation.
That would help things immensely, given that the 24-year-old has 16 goals and eight assists so far this term.
Unfortunately, however, Corriere dello Sport claimed on Tuesday evening that Idrissi ‘dreams’ of joining Dutch heavyweights Ajax, who have a vacancy at his position, with Hakim Ziyech set to join Chelsea in the summer.
How big of a shame is this for Everton?
It would be a real disappointment to miss out on a talent like Idrissi, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that the Toffees will.
There was always going to be competition for the signature of a player as exciting as the Moroccan.
Unfortunately for the Blues, a switch to Ajax simply makes too much sense. He knows the division, and they have need of a player exactly like him.
So it does seem like everything is lining up for him to move to Amsterdam, but the Toffees still very much have a fighting chance.
In other Everton news, the club reportedly made an offer to a Bundesliga-winning manager prior to giving Ancelotti the job.
