Report – Everton offered chance to sign 28y/o Bundesliga stalwart
Everton have been offered the chance to sign RB Leipzig striker Emil Forsberg, according to German outlet Sport Bild.
The 28-year-old has been at the Bundesliga club since 2015, but has struggled to force his way in Julien Nagelsmann’s plans this season, and has started just 10 league matches so far.
And it is understood that the Toffees have been offered the opportunity to sign him on a permanent deal in the summer transfer window.
Leipzig are said to believe that a fee of around £17 million would be a fair price for the versatile Sweden international, who can play anywhere across a frontline.
The report, which was shared in the print edition of Bild, as cited by Sport Witness, also claims that Premier League rivals Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, and Leicester City have also been offered the player.
Would Forsberg be a good signing for Everton?
No transfer is made without an element of risk.
Forsberg is undoubtedly a top quality player with an abundance of experience, but he has been out of favour in Germany this season, and that in itself could be a red flag.
That being said, it’s important to recognise that he has managed to maintain a very healthy minute per goal ratio of 151 this term, despite enduring such a stuttering campaign.
Even with that impressive start, however, there will be other worries.
According to the report, there have been rumours about a lack of application in training, as well as repeated assertions from Forsberg that he does not feel the need to continually prove himself.
You would assume that Carlo Ancelotti would not stand for that kind of thing, and given his apparent emphasis on rebuilding this Everton squad in his image, you could easily foresee a situation in which this one was allowed to pass by.
