Report – Everton given second chance to swoop for 28y/o Serie A dazzler

Everton could have another chance to sign Inter Milan’s Matias Vecino, according to the print edition of Italian outlet Tuttosport, as per Sport Witness.

The Toffees were heavily linked to the Uruguayan in January, according to Calcio Mercato, but failed to get a deal over the line.

It is now understood, however, that he could become available again, with Inter looking to add another midfielder to their ranks in the transfer window.

In the report detailing Antonio Conte’s intentions, Tuttosport claim that the player remains “one of the most sought-after profiles abroad“.

The article then names Everton directly, alluding to their prior interest in taking the player to Merseyside.

Would Vecino be a good signing for the Toffees?

There are really two parts to that question.

Firstly, is Vecino a good enough player to represent the Blues?

Honestly, the answer isn’t overly clear.

There’s no doubting that the South American can mix it with the best on his day, but so far this term he has been far from his best.

With just 59.8% total successful actions per game, compared his career average of 70.9%, as per Wyscout, plus a pass completion rate 6.6% lower than normal, this has hardly been a vintage year for Vecino.

Would it be worth taking a gamble on a player is such bad form? Perhaps not.

Secondly, the Toffees aren’t exactly short of options in the centre of the park.

Would it be worth forking out a sizeable fee on a player who isn’t definitely guaranteed a starting berth for Ancelotti’s men? Almost certainly the answer is no.
