Report – Ancelotti plots Everton swoop for AC Milan star, player already learning English
Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti is interested in signing AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, according to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport.
The report states that the Toffees boss is keen on landing the 21-year-old stopper, but could face competition from the likes of PSG and Chelsea if he is to do so.
It is understood that Donnarumma is unwilling to extend his contract with his boyhood club, and therefore could be sold for as little as £23 million in the coming summer transfer window.
It is also claimed that the stopper has been filling his afternoons in Milan by learning English in anticipation of a potential switch to the Premier League.
Despite his bilingual exploits, however, a move for the Italian is still regarded as ambitious by Gazzetta.
Would this be a good move for Everton?
Donnarumma is a bit special, there’s no doubt about that.
The Italian feels as if he’s been around ages even though he’s just 21, and that comes from the fact that he broke into the first team at Milan when he was so young.
So far this term he has conceded 0.96 goals per game, despite his xG rating being 1.02, as per Wyscout.
The 6’5″ talent has also averaged 3.02 saves per game this term, including 46.4% using reflexes.
In comparison, Jordan Pickford has conceded 1.22 per game, making 2.97 saves with a reflex average of 45%, as per Wyscout.
Whether those numbers are drastic enough to justify the Blues spending big on a new stopper this summer remains to be seen, but there’s no questioning that he would be a quality addition.
