Report – Everton ready £15m bid for Galatasaray talent

Everton are readying a £15 million bid for Galatasaray defender Christian Luyindama, according to Turkish outlet Fotomac.

The report states that the Toffees could face competition from West Ham in their efforts to land the 26-year-old, who only recently returned to light training after suffering a knee ligament injury.

The Congolese star is expected to be ready for first team action again by the end of May.

But despite his lengthy lay-off neither Everton or the Hammers have been deterred, with both keen to snap him up.

Luyindama has slipped down the pecking order in Turkey in recent times, and now finds himself out of favour, former West Brom defender Ryan Donk usurping him in the starting XI.

Would Luyindama be a smart signing for the Toffees?

There’s certainly a lot to suggest that he could be.

Obviously, this injury has been far from ideal for the player, and the long spell on the sidelines could be a concern, but if Luyindama comes back and reaches the standard that he was setting before his absence, then he could be a great addition.

Over the course of his career, he has averaged an aerial duel win percentage of 63%, as well as 6.6 interceptions, and 4.36 clearances per game, as per Wyscout.

What does those numbers tell us? Well, they illustrate a player who is commanding at the heart of defence, but who also reads the game well and anticipates play.

As a point of reference, Yerry Mina has averaged an aerial duel win percentage of 59.8%, as well as 5.34 interceptions, and 3.49 clearances per match, as per Wyscout.

Luyindama could well prove to be an improvement on what the Toffees have, and at £15 million in the current market, could be a steal too.
