Report – Everton plot summer swoop for ‘prestige’ ex-Ancelotti star

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti is keen on signing Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, according to the print edition of Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, as per Sport Witness

The report claims that the the Toffees boss is eager to raid his former club in an effort to strengthen his current side’s prospects of achieving European qualification next season.

And it is understood that Ancelotti has already been in touch with Napoli over a potential transfer.

Gazzetta state that the primary purpose of his correspondence was to “test the waters” over a potential move for Brazilian midfielder Allan, but that Koulibaly is also very much in his sights.

It is claimed that there is a great deal of respect between Koulibaly and Ancelotti, and that the 28-year-old would represent the kind of “prestige” signing that Ancelotti is desperate to make this summer.

Would Koulibaly be a good signing for Everton?

Without a doubt, yes.

The Senegalese international is a world class talent, and one who would no doubt elevate the quality of this Everton side hugely.

So far this season he has averaged 6.36 defensive duels won, has won 66% of his defensive duels, and has made 3.23 clearances per game, as per Wyscout.

As a point of reference, Yerry Mina has averaged 4.8 defensive duels won, has won 59.6% of his aerial duels, and has made 2.98 interceptions, as per Wyscout.

Bringing in Koulibaly wouldn’t be easy, of course, but if Ancelotti could pull it off, what a coup it would be for the club.
